This picture was taken near the source of the North Fork Big Thompson River. This section of the river, which is still a small creek, is located on the North Fork Trail located inside Rocky Mountain National Park’s remote northeastern side.
The trail starts on National Forest land and is a moderately strenuous 9.7 mile (one-way) hike to the Lost Lake. I highly recommend this hike, but know that this is very remote and permits for overnight camping are required.
This picture was taken a bit off trail while trying to locate the Lost Falls, which my wife and I were able to do, but I don’t necessarily recommend because of the remote, rough terrain.
