This inquisitive Golden-mantled ground squirrel is a resident of the Hanging Lake near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. It is obviously very used to people and approached several of the visitors trying to coax a free meal from one of them. I am sure he is usually very successful, but for their safety it’s best never to feed the wildlife. Our food has the potential to rot in their storage spaces causing all their winter reserves to spoil. Ultimately our generosity has the potential to starve animals that live through the winter on hidden food.
