Colorado’s slogan is “welcome to colorful Colorado,” and while I don’t always agree that it is the most colorful place, it is certainly a true statement in the short bloom season of the alpine wildflowers. This is the hillside on the eastern edge of the Ice Lake Basin in the midst of the San Juan Mountain range. Mid-July here certainly embodies the state’s slogan. The grassy green land is covered in yellow, red, blue, and purple hues of wildflowers and overlooks the rocky peaks still dotted with snow. This is a landscape that bursts with color.
