Black Pool Dawn

The sun rises over Yellowstone Lake and the West Thumb Geyser Basin. The steam from the hot spring, Black Pool, rises in the cool late September air. Black Pool is one of many thermal hot spots in the small West Thumb area. It was once relatively cold and micro organisms thrived in its waters, causing it to have a blackish color and giving it its name. Today however, it’s very hot and the waters are extremely blue.
