As you near the terminus for the Dragon’s Back trail, near Big Wave Beach in Hong Kong, you will find yourself on this steep staircase surrounded by lush vegetation. It is an odd place. It’s only a 30 minute drive from one of the world’s most densely populated cities and yet it feels so far removed that it could be on a different planet.
The Dragon’s Back trail is one of Hong Kong’s most popular hikes. It starts on Shek O Road near To Tei Wan village and climbs nearly 1,000′, seemingly straight up at times. The trail makes its way up and over several rolling hills with ocean views on both sides. The hills resemble a dragon’s back sticking up out of the ocean, thus the name.
