Ice storms are destructive forces of nature, but along with the inconvenience and pain comes great beauty. There is something so mesmerizing and perfect about these red leaves encased in ice. They seem as if they would last forever this way, very much like a glass leaf. I took this image the morning after a rather nasty ice storm passed through Tennessee while I was visiting family last year. My family and I had a great time sliding down the driveway in cardboard boxes and watching my one-year-old niece try to eat as much of the ice as she could. What many see as an inconvenience, for me, became an imprinted memory. This is a good reminder to me to try to find the joy in the midst of the pain.
