This memorial stands on the historic Jamestown site in Virgina. In 1607, Jamestown became the first successful European settlement on the North American continent. It had been 115 years since Columbus had discovered the new world and it would be 169 years until the United States would break free of British rule. This was the site from which the continent would be colonized and the world changed.
Yesterday was Good Friday, the annual remembrance of how Christ suffered and died on the cross. Tomorrow is Easter, the day He rose from the grave. The day the world changed forever. For those who lived in that time and had called Jesus their rabbi, today would have been a dark day. They were living in the shadow of a horrifying, bloody cross. The grave was fully present in their lives… but tomorrow they would be set free.
No mater what you believe, these are two events that changed the course of human history.
