A gull drops into the shallow waters of Bark Bay in New Zealand to catch its fishie dinner. You can actually see the unfortunate fish in the grasp of the bird’s bill. My wife and I had just finished up a 5-mile hike from Awaroa Bay. This was our third day backpacking on the Abel Tasman Coastal Track and our shortest hiking day. We had lots of time before the sunset to explore the area. I waded around the bay for several hours snapping photos of the sea birds and a bit of the aquatic life. This fearless bird came swooping down a mere ten feet away. He was leery of my presence, but he wasn’t going to allow me to spoil his dinner reservation.
