The Grand Canyon. It is a place that I would recommend everyone make a pilgrimage to at least once in their lifetime. If you haven’t been, than you can’t truly understand the scale of this landscape. I have been lucky enough to see many canyons in my lifetime. Some very deep, some wide, but this scar in the earth’s surface makes all others pale in comparison. Photos, no mater how good, do very little justice to its magnificent scale.
I took this picture in the early afternoon while strolling along the easily traversed West Rim Trail. My wife and I took the bus from Grand Village out to Hermits Rest. We then made the hike back along the rims edge. It is an easy traverse, but it does take some time to do the whole journey. This is one of the few places that I found where you can actually see all the way to the bottom of the canyon from the South Rim. The Colorado River is over a vertical mile below. I haven’t been to the North Rim as of yet, but it is on my adventure list. Not a bucket list… I feel that term somehow implies waiting till I am on death’s doorstep to go. I hope to hike across the canyon from rim to rim one day.
