Chattering teeth, thick clothes, fog, snow, and fall colors… where else could this be but high in the Colorado mountains? This beautiful autumn scene reflects on the Lost Lake Slough near Crested Butte, Colorado.
My wife and I camped in the frigid weather just to the right of that central colorful tree. This is a beautiful place to spend an autumn day and night, but Colorado’s temperatures can drop quickly and snow can roll in pretty much at any time of year. Come prepared! We had sleeping bags, winter clothes and a lot of blankets in our very small 2-person backpacking tent and it was still all we could do not to freeze overnight. Still, the autumn colors really stood out against the snowy pines and it was one of those gorgeous days that Colorado seems to specialize in. Worth It!
