I really enjoy finding life thriving in unexpected places. This tree was growing out of the side of the massive granite monolith known as Stone Mountain in Georgia. A pine seed somehow found its way in to a crack in the stone and took root. Where do the roots go is my question. How does this tree grow? Does it survive on sunlight alone? How does it not just blow away with the first good gust of wind? Nature is cool in the way that it seems to ignore the very laws of nature.
