There are some places that I’ve been to that just stand out in my memory as clear as if I were standing there today. Lake Tekapo is one of those places. I remember looking at it on the map while planning our trip to New Zealand, and thinking, “oh yeah, we should probably plan on stopping by that big lake on our way to Mt. Cook.” I later realized that this was where the Church of the Good Shepherd was located and it became a must do. For me the church itself was too crowded with tourists and their selfy-sticks (worst thing ever invented), but a half a mile down the road the tourists weren’t anywhere to be found and my wife and I had this secluded, placid spot all to ourselves. That a body of water this large could be so placid seems otherworldly to me. We sat and watched as the setting sun lit up the clouds both above and on the water.
