Far too often Memorial Day is thought of as a day we get to take off work, the beginning of summer, or an opportunity to break out the bar-b-que and have a party with friends and loved ones. Those are great things, but Memorial Day is truly about remembering those who gave their lives so that we are free. We are free to take that day off of work, to celebrate the beginning of summer, and to bar-b-que with friends. Memorial Day is a time set aside to remember those young men and women who in the prime of their lives gave their lives to purchase our freedom.
This is an image of our National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. It is the final resting place for more than 400,000 patriots. The cemetery should serve as a reminder to all citizens the cost of our freedom…. it isn’t free. Happy Memorial Day.
