Ripples in Stone

Ripples in Stone

I am fascinated by the way rocks are carved by water and time, creating ripples in stone. These walls show the undulations of the Virgin River in the slot canyon known as The Narrows. Over the years, the river swirled and cut the indentions in the canyon walls. The striations in the rock were layers of sand and dirt buried and compressed by time, yet revealed by erosion. The whole thing is spectacular.
