The west coast of New Zealand’s Southern Island is a great place to get away from the business of the rest of the world. Here you will find glaciers amongst rain forests. This is a very rare occurrence in our world. Franz Josef glacier has carved the valley you see in the photo above. In its recession up the valley, the glacier has left pools like the one seen above, Peters Pool. These pools give great reflective views of the carved out landscape. This is a place of serenity away from the stresses of the world far from this dense, lush forest.
Want to find Peters Pool for yourself? It isn’t hard… if you can make your way to the remote glacier town of Franz Josef. Once there make your way to the Franz Josef car park located a short drive south of the town. From the car park you can follow the signs on a short 1.1km hike back to the northeast through the dense rain forest. It is a gorgeous short hike.
