Jennifer and I found this macaque along with its large family while hiking through the dense Karst Mountains in China’s Zhangjiajie National Park. This particular Zhangjiajie primate perched up on this stone wall while we made our way up the steep staircase. It was a very surreal experience to have this troop of more than 20 macaques come barreling down this staircase towards us. Most passed by us with little regard to the fact that we were even there. The young ones stopped and stared before continuing their wrestling with one another. Some of the adults took notice but only as they directly passed by inches away. Rarely do I ever have encounters with wildlife like this family of Zhangjiajie primates.
