Angkor Wat in Cambodia is a stunning ancient wonder. The unique architectural beauty of the Khmer Empire stands in stark contrast to many other ancient wonders. For those who have never visited this place, Angkor Wat’s main temple complex is what is often photographed with the small reflecting pool in front, but the Angkor Wat complex is so much more. The image above is taken from the west entrance looking towards the rising sun. This water in the foreground is the moat that encompasses the entire Angkor Wat area. You can see the famous spires of the main temple rising just to the left of the gate tower. Angkor Wat is huge and is just one of the many temples in the area of the present day city of Siem Reap, Cambodia.
I longed to visit this place for many years and it did not disappoint. My only regret is that we did not have more time to explore these amazing temples and spend more time amongst the Cambodian people and landscapes.
