In the Eye of the Egret

Birds are amazing creatures and this egret in Ponce De Leon Park’s Peace River Wildlife Center is no exception. The wildlife center is primarily run by volunteers and locally supported. A popular stop for anyone visiting in Punta Gorda, Florida. Not your thing? Try the beach, playground, fishing area, or wooden boardwalk through the mangroves, all within a few steps.

I could spend a considerable amount of time (and have while writing this) studying each part of a beautiful photo like this one. To me, it’s almost like Seurat’s pointillism. There’s just so much to look at and even more the longer you study it. Take for example this egret’s skillful beak, sharp eye, or snowy feathers. Now notice the lines of the beak, the folds of the skin surrounding the eye, and the changing direction of snowy white features–short and long. There’s always more…
