Celestial Bridge

It rains a lot in Zhangjiajie National Park, therefore, it has many bridges as a part of the beautiful, well maintained hiking trails. This is Celestial Bridge, found on one of the Northeastern most trails in the park. This path doesn’t reveal the rock formations that the park is famous for, but I found that it was one of the…

Zhangjiajie Monkey

No, Zhangjiajie is not a type of monkey. In fact I have no idea what type of monkey this is. We came across this little guy and about thirty of his relatives on a trail in Zhangjiajie National Park. Zhangjiajie, for those of you who aren’t familiar, is China’s first National Park. It also happens to…

Zhangjiajie Overlook

This image was taken in the heart of central China at the Zhangjiajie National Park. Established in 1982, this is China’s first National Park. In 1992, it was named a UNESCO world heritage site. This landscape is also famous for inspiring the alien world for the movie Avatar. The park itself is well known by…

Zhangjiajie Primate

Jennifer and I found this macaque along with its large family while hiking through the dense Karst Mountains in China’s Zhangjiajie National Park. This particular Zhangjiajie primate perched up on this stone wall while we made our way up the steep staircase. It was a very surreal experience to have this troop of more than…

Where Are We Going?

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” -Martin Luther King Jr. Today is a day when we remember a man whose legacy was unity and equality for all people, regardless of race. Dr. King fought against injustices through non-violent protest. He was a Christian…

Zhangjiajie Macaque

China’s Zhangjiajie National Park is home to many different animal species, one of which is the highly adaptable macaque primate. Other than humans, the macaque is the most widespread primate on the planet. They can survive in tropical climates and wintry mountains and consume a wide range of seeds, fruits, tree bark, and even crustaceans. My…

Zhangjiajie Undergrowth

This is a look at the thick undergrowth of the mythical looking landscape of Zhangjiajie National Park in China. It’s the rock formations that draw people to this unique environment, but the same water that has slowly carved the rocky pinnacles also has given rise to a diverse jungle.

Mysterious Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie National Park in China is a mysterious landscape. As the clouds that hide this land in a dense fog rise they reveal the otherworldly rock formations that have been carved by the rain. The formations are covered in green by trees that somehow find a way to cling to the rocky pillars. It is a strange and uniquely beautiful place.

Zhangjiajie Waterfall

Zhangjiajie National Park in China is a land shaped by water. This is a small 6′ waterfall found on an off shoot trail near the Golden Whip Stream Trail.

Zhangjiajie Structure

This building’s structure, found in China’s Zhangjiajie National Park, is an architectural design that is interwoven within China’s history and culture.

Zhangjiajie Path

This is a rain covered pathway in China’s Zhangjiajie National Park. As you can see, the moss grows on everything (the stairs, the rock walls, and even the railings). Zhangjiajie is a beautiful green wilderness where the wildlife, rushing water, and epic rock formations make for some amazing nature hikes.
